Sealants

Decay or dental caries (cavities) is the most widespread dental disease among children and adults.

Sealants are a thin white material painted on the chewing surfaces of permanent molars and sometimes premolars.
They are recommended to prevent or reduce the incidence of cavities in these back teeth.

Sealants act as a protective barrier against bacteria, acids and foods that may otherwise cause tooth decay.  It is a simple and very beneficial treatment for children.  It is especially effective when the permanent molars are newly erupted (just came out), but older children benefit from sealants also.

Sealants may be placed only if a cavity has not already formed.  Bring your child in to see Dr. Saroyan for a check up, cleaning, fluoride treatment and sealants.
